Critical Refection and response: Is the final product more important than the design and production process?
The debate whether the final product is more important than the design and production process has been an interesting conversation to follow. In lecture week 2 the discussion was about how the design and production process itself is important. Each section of the design and production process has a specific role that leads to the final product, therefore, making the design and production process more important.
The design process can be defined simply as "a systematic series of steps that helps you to define, plan and produce a product you’re building" (Beckler-Jones. S,2018). When using the design process it "allows us to be more efficient and transparent when we are designing" (Beckler-Jones. S,2018).
Though the design process can be long and strenuous it is more important than the final product as it is what's used to create the final product. Without the design process, the final product would not exist. The design and production process is more flexible than the final product as it involves a structured plan can be "tested and refined" (Beckler-Jones. S,2018) that allows a designer to be "efficient, transparent and focused" (Beckler-Jones. S,2018). When a "purposeful design and production process makes sure that every piece has been thought through" it allows the final product to reach its optimal functioning.
By having a plan, designers "can make sure the plan is always moving forward and avoiding retracing steps" (Beckler-Jones. S,2018). "There is a lowered risk when using a plan" (Beckler-Jones. S,2018) as there can be complications encountered when using the design process.
Some complications can be due to change of ideas within the design process but the design and production process is adaptable enough for complications to occur and work therefore making the design production and process more efficient and important than the final product.

Critical Reflection and response: Can you live without Digital and Communication Technologies
In the modern world, we rely on technology a lot.
Some even say they can’t live a day without it. In our everyday lives, we use technology, whether it’s for sending a text or listen to music. Technology is useful in our everyday lives as it helps us to communicate and stay in touch with what’s going on in the world.
Technology of all types serves a purpose to make things more convenient and useful. Technology also serves as a source of entertainment, a form of safety and an education tool.
Technology such as ‘televisions, online videos and gaming systems’ (Tech Spikes (2018) are practical entertainment resources. The most common forms of everyday use technology are Televisions and mobile phones. Connecting to the internet also helps Technology to be more entertaining as you can access apps and social media keeping you updated with friends and watch funny cat videos. “Even traditional forms of entertainment have met with technology. Tons of people these days trade-in their paperbacks for e-readers and tablets” (Tech Spikes (2018) making it easier for students and book lovers as they won’t have to carry around so many books at a time. “With so much entertainment available at the hands of technological devices, it would be hard to live without” (Tech Spikes (2018).
“When it comes to safety and protection, technology is key” (Tech Spikes (2018). By using an alarm system at home, it will notify your phone when there is an intruder. There are also many emergency apps available for download that allow you to\call emergency services at a touch of a button. “Security cameras also help people to detect any threats before anyone enters.” (Tech Spikes (2018). Even cars have technology that keeps you save. “People are now able to avoid crashes thanks to the innovative security features” (Tech Spikes (2018).
Technology can also be helpful in educations as “technology has made education more accessible than ever” (Tech Spikes (2018). There are so many programs and games that are available online to aid with education. There is so much information made available by technology that can be accessed anytime, anywhere. “Schools and universities build themselves around technology” (Tech Spikes (2018) by allowing students to use laptops for information and assignments.
Technology is vital in everyday life as it allows us to communicate, keep updated, secure and entertained. Technology in the 21st century would be very hard to live without.

Critical Reflection and response: Will your digital footprint really last a lifetime?
When posting online not many of us realise that what we put online can be there forever. ‘Digital Footprints’ can “refer to one’s unique set of traceable digital activities, actions, contributions that are manifested on the internet.” (Wikipedia, 2018). By having ‘traceable contributions’ to the internet indicating data and information placed on the internet can be tracked as it will be on the internet permanently.
Most people use social media apps to post what they’re up to and don’t really take into account that what they post can be seen and tracked in many years to come. Having a digital footprint does have its perks. The social media website Facebook has a reminder post that allows you to look back at what you did on a certain day last year of a few years ago. This allows you to access some previous data that has contributed to your digital footprint.
A digital footprint can be divided into two types of classifications (Wikipedia,2018). The two classifications are known as passive and active. “Passive digital footprint is created when data is collected without the owner knowing, whereas active digital footprints are created when personal data is released deliberately by user for the purpose of sharing information about oneself.” (Wikipedia, 2018)
Digital Footprints really do last a lifetime as “your digital footprint is permanent” (Brownell, R, 2015). Thus, meaning anything that is put online by yourself has a “permanent record” (Brownell, R, 2015) regardless of ‘positive or negative actions’ (Brownell, R, 2015). Not only can you contribute to the data posted online, others can also contribute to your digital footprints which is also permanent. “A major part of your digital reputation comes from what others are saying about you online’ (Brownell, R, 2015). Which is crucial to monitor as some people can leave negative comments.
